Why Is Disney Getting Rid Of Splash Mountain?
Walt Disney World has closed its famous attraction ride, which has been there for several years. The fans are up in arms to see the ride go because it had been criticized for having racist roots.
In 2020, Disney filed a petition to change the theme of the beloved water ride. But the insider information went viral. At that time, Disney declared that the changes had been there since 2019.
In 1946, Disney released the film Br’er Rabbit and the story of that film related to “Song of the South.” That film was greatly condemned for the idealized depiction of plantation life. To that, Disney CEO Bob Iger stated in a shareholders meeting on March 2020, “The song of the South did not adjust in today’s world.”
When the ride was closed on Sunday in January 2023, by Tuesday, the TikTok hashtag #goodbyesplashmountain got more than 1 million views over it.
On one side, fans sobbed their heart, while on the other hand, some were happy to see its closure.
On TikTok, people pay tribute to the last ride video over its waterfall with a low temperature.
Under the last ride video, people commented when seeing the video’s caption, “It’s time to bid farewell to Splash Mountain, But we will miss you everlasting.”
That last video went viral on social media and got thousands of likes by the next day of uploading the video.
The second video that went viral on TikTok showed that there were few hours left, and we had to wait two plus hours. Then, the Splash Mountain will go forever.
How Are People Utilizing Splash Mountain Water?
The fans of Disney were crazy about the ride. They bought bottles filled with water for the ride. When the ride closed, Disney devotees found that more than 70 plastic bags, bottles, and Mason jars were being sold on eBay. It is filled with Splash Mountain Water. The sellers on eBay claimed we had collected the water when the last ride was held at Disneyland.
Moreover, the bottles filled with splash water are sold on demand. People who are really into the Splash Mountain ride agreed to pay more than 50 US dollars.
What Is Going To Replace Splash Mountain?
It is reported that Splash Mountain at Disney World and Disneyland will be replaced with Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Tiana Bayou Adventure, a new ride, will be there. It is encouraged by “The Princess and the Frog,” Disney’s animated film.
The California resort explained in a June 25, 2020 news report, “The new ride has been inspired by the Disney animated film, “The Princess and the Frog.” The film ended with a scene showing the final kiss, and the ride picks up the guest with Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical journey.”
The resort added, “In this film, Tiana is presented as a bold personality who chases her dreams and does everything to make them possible. She has shown as a modern, empowered, and courageous woman.”
“It is an impeccable story that represented the powerful main character set against the backdrop of Louisiana Bayou and New Orleans.”
In January 2023, Disney declared that it would be joined by PJ Morton and Terence Blanchard, Award-Winning artists on the music guests.
The Future Of The Splash Mountain
The future of Splash Mountain is looking magnificent.
Disney disclosed the first look at the retheming park. It is supposed to be created next year in 2024. The theme of the resort has been inspired by the Disney animated film “The Princess and the Frog.”
Moreover, the characters have also been discovered to be similar to the film’s characters to allure customers.
Additionally, Naveen, Mama Odie, and Louis, a jazz-loving alligator, all have been created at the attraction center. Not only will appearances be there, but the original voice actress Jenifer Lewis will also be there. Alongside Jennifer Lewis, other voices from the animated film will also be created to give an original appearance to their characters.
At the newly created attraction center, guests can travel through the Bayou. They can also listen to their favorite songs and the latest music.
Disney’s press release stated, “When the latest attraction center will be launched, fireflies light up the night at the beginning of the boat ride.”
The ride will remain and incorporate a mixture of rhythm and zydeco music developed in Louisiana. Otters, Turtle, Rabbit, Raccoon, Beaver, and others will be incorporated to make up the band.
Disney announced everything about the appearance of the newly created attraction center. But also teased during the announcement by saying, “All of them will play a lead role in the film’s story; you all just have to wait and watch what’ll be the next move….”
The Splash Mountain has been closed officially at Disney World. It is decided to transform completely into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure by the next year, 2024. But people are trying to sell water from the ride. They sell by saying it is from the beloved ride.
An Encanto-themed Attraction is also supposed to be coming to Disney Parks.
Anika Noni Rose voiced Tiana in the animated 2009 Disney film, The Princess and the Frog. She shared her excitement when the initial announcement was made for the retheming ride.
“I am super excited to discover that we will be able to fully realize the presence of Princess Tiana in the rethemed ride. Both the Disneyland and Magic Kingdom will finally be created in a way that makes us realize her real presence.”
When the first announcement was made in 2020, she said, “We hope the fans are equally excited to know about it. We know what we are creating will be liked by all our fans, and they will be over the moon.”
The Bottom Line On Splash Mountain Closing
We have concluded that The 30-year-old ride that Princess Diana visited in 1993 has been closed now. It is closed because they planned to transform it into a new attraction center. Also, it featured racist stereotypes because, in the film, most of the characters were from “Song of the South,” Disney’s 1946 film.
In June 2020, it was declared that this attraction of the US would be transformed into the 2009 Disney film “The Princess and the Frog.” The new ride is decided to be open sometime in 2024. But the exact date of the new ride is not scheduled so far. It is destined to be open at Magic Kingdom and Disneyland.
It is already announced, on January 23, 2023, the Magic Kingdom version shut down. On the contrary, on May 31, 2023, its Disneyland version was closed.
The Disneyworld Park in Anaheim, California, this attraction was closed permanently. It happened because they planned to convert the attraction into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. It is supposed to be open by next year. Till you have to wait for the rethemed resorts. The upcoming year 2024, has something for everyone or everything for some people.
