Is Crate & Barrel Going Out Of Business?
Yes, it was announced last year by the company Crate & Barrel that the store was shut down last year (2022). In late March 2022, The Crate & Barrel at Stockton and O’Farrell Streets were expected to be closed. Crate & Barrel Stockton Street covered an area of 53,000 square foot store. It was also believed that the Australia-based Coco Republic had replaced the shop in the same year.
Along with this branch, other branches have been shut down in recent years. There are no predictions of closure in the future.
It was also believed that the Union Square Store’s vacant space could be filled by other brands such as Chanel, Jollibee, and IKEA.
Abercombie & Fitch, DSW, The GAP, and H&M, these high profile brands, also shuttered their stores’ locations; it looked like “One Step Forward, two steps back.”
According to SFGate reports, Crate & Barrel in Union Square has also closed; on March 23, Crate & Barrel in Union Square was shut down. The reports said, “The Crate & Barrel at 55 Stockton Street in Union Square will shutter on March 23, an employee told SFGATE on Sunday afternoon, and the store has already begun to roll out sample sales to liquidate its stock.”
When the company was announcing its store’s closure, it told SFGATE, and in that statement, nothing was there which explained anything about its closure. The statement was, “We remain committed to offering our customers the best shopping experience in-store and online.”
The company also added in a statement, “We are closing this location, but still, the customers can make the most of Crate & Barrel products because they can shop all of them at the nearest store locations offline, including Walnut Creek, Town Center Corte Madera, Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto or online as well from its official website, i.e., crateandbarrel.com.”
Several stores have been closed, but still, there are more than 100 stores in the United States; one of the customers said, “The company’s spinoff store CB2 is still there and has a location around the corner at 34 Ellis Street.”
CB2 was a four-story building covering an area of 21,600 square feet. Robert Hayes of Hayes Hosiey owned the retail store.
When the stores closed, Crate & Barrel faced financial health issues that forced the company to complete some branches.
They closed several stores while some are still there, Crate & Barrel opening more outlets in others. These closures affected employees’ jobs also because some retail associates and workers lost their job.
Why Crate & Barrel Is Going Out Of Business?
Crate & Barrel is going out of business; it is true. But, people who love to shop with this brand ask several questions and want to know the reason behind its closure. So, we have mentioned some of the possible reasons for its closure.
Firstly, when the company was asked, they said, It was tough for us to continue business in San Francisco’s Union Square because the retail shop was not reaching the sales target. It was tough for large chain retailers to pay astronomical rent during this condition (i.e., poor foot traffic).
After the closure of several Crate & Barrel stores, there are so many stores. So, the company did not give an exact reason for the closure.
Even though some of the retailers explained, we faced several issues, and it was difficult to do business in those areas. They gave reasons for closures, i.e., shoplifting and poop on the streets.
