Tuesday Morning Stores Closing List: Are they going out of business?

Tuesday Morning, a discount store, has been skating very close to the edge for some time. The home goods retailer said in February that it had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and would be liquidating more than half of its locations. Tuesday Morning’s management predicted it would “emerge as a more robust retailer.

But even at a smaller level, the business is no longer sustainable. It was officially announced on April 27, 2023, that it would stop operations and close all 200 of its remaining outlets. Find out when your neighbourhood store will permanently close its doors by reading on.

Dallas-based Tuesday Morning debuted its first location in 1974. Tuesday Morning’s products include home textiles, furnishings, housewares, gourmet food, toys, and seasonal decor. In contrast to other department stores, the company specializes in offering high-quality goods at low prices.

On Tuesday Morning, I formerly had over 500 locations around the country. By the end of 2023, it will, however, have dropped all business operations and storefronts. Continue reading to learn the shocking reasoning behind this sudden move!

Who is the owner of Tuesday morning?

Lloyd Ross founded Tuesday Morning in 1974. When it was at its most popular in 2018, Tuesday Morning had over 700 outlets and over $1 billion in sales. Texas-based Tuesday Morning Corp. was formally sold to Hilco Merchant Resources on April 27, 2023.

Hilco paid more than $32 million for the business. Judge Edward L. Morris of the Fort Worth division of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas authorized the sale.

Thus, Hilco Merchant Resources is the owner of Tuesday Morning Corp.

Hilco will now be in charge of closing down all remaining shops. It is despite expectations that some prospective new openings might keep Tuesday Morning stores operating.

Sale announcement by the company:

Bed Bath & Beyond declared bankruptcy and began liquidating shops around the country. Almost one week later, another major home retailer announced the same. It is none other than the Dallas-based retailer Tuesday Morning. The business informed its consumers of its closure on Saturday, April 29.

The business plans on closing all of its locations. It includes eight that are in the San Antonio region, along with its headquarters in Dallas. According to a company Facebook post, customers could begin benefiting from the store’s closing-down sale. They offered discounts of up to 30% on a variety of products, like bedding, bath products, and furniture.

What caused Tuesday Morning to close its doors?

The announcement follows Tuesday Morning’s attempts to survive years of low sales and bounce back from two bankruptcies. In an effort to save the company, the business closed its outlets. Also, they concentrated on areas with higher client traffic after filing for Chapter 11 for the first time in May 2020. The store declared bankruptcy for a second time in February 2023, citing “exceedingly burdensome debt.

The retailer shuttered more failing and poorly performing stores. Yet reporters stated that they were unsuccessful.

Besides the 30% discount, there will be a sale on store furnishings, equipment, and fixtures. Through May 13, 2023, customers can accept returns and redeem gift cards, as reported. According to a news release, anything purchased before April 28 is eligible for return within 14 days of purchase with a receipt.

It was made applicable even if all sales are final during the store closing sales events. As one of the first retailers to offer discounts, Tuesday Morning defines itself. The company was founded in 1974. Its primary product categories include high-end home furnishings, housewares, pet supplies, bath and body items, and toys.

The company claims it doesn’t sell used or unusual things, in contrast to some budget merchants.

The Downfall of Tuesday Morning:” Factors and Financial Troubles”

Tuesday Morning will go out of business shortly after less than 90 days in bankruptcy. The company had close to 700 stores before filing for bankruptcy.

Tuesday Morning, we had 487 locations across 40 states at the time of its most recent Chapter 11 filing, which was made in late November. Tuesday Morning reported having 4,700 part-time employees and 1,600 full-time employees as of its most recent 10-K filing. In March, the business started holding auctions for the leases of around 260 stores.

For the fiscal year 2022, the company reported net revenues of $749.8 million. It was an increase from $690.8 million the previous year. For the company’s first quarter of fiscal 2023, which concluded on October 1, 2022, Tuesday Morning reported a net loss of $28.2 million. It had an operational loss of roughly $26 million. Also, it had a negative EBITDA of $22.7 million compared to a negative $9.5 million in the same period last year.

Documents from the court provide information on the factors that led to the problems on Tuesday morning. According to Tuesday Morning, in the weeks before the company’s bankruptcy filing, its creditors, headed by Wells Fargo, increased the company’s reserve requirements.

It grew from $10 million to $30 million. This move effectively removed Tuesday morning’s operating liquidity. It also contributed to the company’s precarious financial situation.

Stalking horse negotiations between Invictus and the company to save it from bankruptcy failed in March. Gordon Brothers stepped up and provided debtor-in-possession financing for $12.5 million. The retailer received around $27 million in total to fund operations But more was needed.

On April 13, Tuesday Morning, they requested Invictus under an active credit agreement for roughly $10 million. Yet, Invictus “failed to fund the requested loan. They suggested that the debtors submit a new request for the minimum funds necessary to operate through April 17.

It is according to Dell Young, Tuesday Morning’s senior vice president of finance, analysis, and treasury. The retailer lowered its loan request in response to $3.5 million. On April 17, Invictus granted the request. The business requested $4.9 million to cover the shortfall from the initial proposal.

However, according to Young’s statement in court papers, Invictus declined to fund the requested loan. Also, no reason was offered by Invictus for its failure to fund

After more funding requests were turned down, Young issued a court declaration.

In that, he expressed concern that a lack of funds would prevent the business from paying its bills. It includes vendors, freight for deliveries, the rent for May, and wages.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, loyal customers are left in wonder over Tuesday Morning’s choice to close and are eager to learn the reasoning behind it. The decision was made after the business had to bear a heavy financial strain as a result of the extended store closures in May 2020, at the time of the pandemic’s peak.

In the end, Tuesday Morning, they had to endure so much loss that they had to declare bankruptcy. It is the second time in three years that they have done so under Chapter 11. Its closure is due to “exceedingly burdensome debt” and the disappointing sales of several of its stores.

Consumers have shifted their buying patterns as a result of inflation, the pandemic’s effects, and other factors. And many retailers are struggling financially as a result of the increase in loan rates.

These factors together explain why many similar companies do poorly. Even Bed Bath & Beyond made a bankruptcy filing and store closing announcement for this year. Although the

The situation is heartbreaking for long-time clients; there is nothing that can be done when things are this bad.
