Block Drug was the company that offered the Sensodyne brand of toothpaste. The business was started in 1907 by pharmacist Alexander Block in Brooklyn, New York. By 1925, the company’s primary focus was the production of dental care goods. As his father moved the family firm to Jersey City, New Jersey, in 1938, Leonard N. Block joined him.
Block Drug was bought by SmithKline Beecham P.L.C. in 2000 before it changed its name to GlaxoSmithKline(GSK). The toothpaste was released in 1961 as a desensitizing toothpaste built on a strontium chloride formula. Sensodyne introduced a brand-new toothpaste in 1980 that contained potassium nitrate, a mild local sedative.
