Is McDonald’s Closing Stores in 2023?

McDonald's Closing Stores

Yes! You have heard right; one of the most popular American fast-food restaurants has already been closed at several places. It is mentioned that various McDonald’s stores in New York have been closed by January, and several other fast-food restaurants will replace the closed stores.

After 40 years of McDonald’s launch in the U.S. The worst news is that McDonald’s is shutting its doors for now. According to a report, the stores continuously got 800 police call-outs within a year. This was one of the major reasons McDonald’s is not renovating the restaurants and planned to close many stores by April as they have already closed around 10 stores by January 1.

Why McDonald’s Shutting Down Stores in 2023?

It may be sad news for everyone that McDonald’s stores are going away, as many stores have already closed in 2023. There is no room for doubt. It is heartbreaking news for fast-food lovers who do not want to hear it anymore.

But McDonald’s has taken this step and closed several stores. There are several reasons that McDonald’s has decided to shut down the restaurants.

It is believed that McDonald’s was laid off due to its renovation, and because of the renovation, they have closed around 10 stores in New York. Millions of people faced a lot of difficulties with their parkways when they were renovating the stores. But now McDonald’s has announced that the stores will be closed.

According to the British Base Investment firm John Laing Group, $450 million was sanctioned by Thruway Authority to Empire State Thruway Partners in 2020. Thruway Partners have decided to renovate several service plazas, i.e., 23 out of 27.

Besides, the redevelopment was funded secretly. Out of which, 11 service plazas were run by McDonald’s; unluckily, they all were shut down by January 1 this year.

Additionally, The Empire State Thruway Partners New York has replaced the McDonald’s stores with other new restaurants such as Chick-fil-A and Popeyes.

Now it is also considering that some of the other renovated restaurants will replace the McDonald’s stores that will deliver Panera Bread or Panda Express in the future so that you can make the most of them.

McDonald’s Branch, which was opened in the year 1985, was in the limelight in the year 2013 after a huge fuss. A man was beaten badly in front of the McDonald’s restaurant.

In 2015, another video went viral that covered all the news headlines and was spread all over the internet.

Similarly, In 2018, a video was dubbed “Legendary Rideau McDonald’s,” in which three men were beaten brutally. Others were making videos, while some were calling out police during the brawl.

After these incidents in front of the McDonald’s stores, they decided the restaurant’s working hours and opening time be reduced from 24X7 to 16 hours only during the day, i.e., from 6 am to 10 pm. On this, people spoke out, and one of the building owners, Peter Crosthwaite, stated, “wasn’t just down to violence.”

He continued, “They are a pretty dynamic organization, they have the right to look at different spots, and maybe they felt the time was right. But there may be things that made it seem more right than usual.”

He also added how these people tore Rideau Street and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

McDonald’s has officially announced that the restaurant’s doors will be shut down In April 2023.

Are McDonald’s Temporarily Closing The Stores, or Are They Permanently Going Away?

McDonald’s announced in January that it would review all of them with an updated business strategy about where they will open their stores and where they are closing their stores temporarily or permanently. Now, they will disclose the updated business decisions very soon.

It has been revealed that McDonald’s corporate offices in the U.S. are closing from Monday to Wednesday because of the brawls. Due to this, many company employees are laid off.

According to some journals, it was stated that McDonald’s posted to say, “It was closing its U.S. offices for those three days for employees’ comfort and privacy, as well as for timing since it’s a busy travel week ahead of Passover and Easter.”

On the contrary, McDonald’s announced in 2022 that we are a company with 150,000 working staff in McDonald’s corporate offices and its restaurants. Out of which 30%, i.e., 45,000 employees, belong to the U.S., and 70% are based outside the U.S.

McDonald’s plans to rebuild the new restaurants, which is part of their updated business strategy. It means they have temporarily closed their stores, not permanently. Besides its renovation, it also plans to increase the rates of its items as they have already increased them over the last year because the labor and commodity cost also rose.

Why Are McDonald’s Working Staff Laying Off?

As it is vague, how many employees have been terminated, and how many are working from home? A Chicago-based organization stated, “During the week of April 3, we will communicate key decisions related to roles and staffing levels across the organization.”

The CEO has asked the McDonald’s employees not to attend all in-person meetings about its closing with other dealers and outside parties.

As McDonald’s company has previously decided to restructure the company and move forward towards it. But it is proved to be damaging to its working staff as they will be unemployed after McDonald’s tough decision of closing stores.

According to sources, it is believed that the McDonald’s fast food company shut down its corporate offices in the U.S., which also stated, “Out Of Respect.” They are restructuring the stores to provide comfort and respect to their colleagues.

Sources also stated, “Folks would be called into a conference room with the windows papers over, and then she or he has to walk back to their desk to get their personal belongings and leave with their head down.”
