Hyundai Sonata Discontinued

Hyundai Sonata Discontinued: It’s time to say Goodbye to Sonata

Hyundai Sonata Discontinued? Yes! they ended their mid-size sedan after the current generation runs its course. Since 1985, Hyundai has produced the Hyundai Sonata, a midsize vehicle. Due to unfavorable consumer feedback, the first generation Sonata, released in 1985 as a facelifted Hyundai Stellar with an upgraded engine, was removed from the market after only two years. The second version, which debuted in 1988, was widely exported even though the nameplate was initially solely offered in South Korea.

Currently, the Sonata is made in Russia for some markets, China and South Korea for others, and the United States for the North American market. Its name is derived from the musical phrase Sonata.

“It is an open secret in the company that the Sonata will be discontinued, and Sonata assembly lines are being converted to produce electric cars.” Hyundai has closed its ICE development departments and targets becoming a fully electric vehicle maker by 2040. A Hyundai official said, “The development project for the DN9, the next-generation Sonata model, is not in progress,” using the DN9 codename for the vehicle type and generation number, and that a parts supplier also offered, “There is no confirmed content about the development of DN9 parts.”

Sonata will not make it to its Ninth Generation

Sonata has been there for a long time and has given Eight whole generations of its incredible models. But sadly, it would not make it to its next generation. Sonata will be discontinued by 2025. Hyundai is making this decision by keeping certain things in mind. It is preparing to enter the EV market, which is one reason.

Apart from that, the sales of the Hyundai Sonata have been very low for a few years. Compared to the preceding models, which sold over a million units, the Hyundai Sonata sedan is reported to have sold only 4,40,000 units in the last three years. With almost 9 million units sold since its 1985 debut, the sedan is one of Korea’s most durable vehicles.

Hyundai hasn’t been able to sell more than 10 Sonatas a month in India for the past six months, proving to be too few sales to keep the car on the market. Based on the report sales and looking at the plans, Hyundai has to make this decision and discontinue the Sonata.

2025 is a Dead End for Hyundai Sonata

Hyundai Sonata Discontinued

The favorite midsize sedan, Hyundai Sonata, will be discontinued by 2025. The demand for this model is decreasing in the market, leading to low sales. The company cannot produce enough revenue to continue the manufacturing of Sonata. Hyundai may introduce some electric features in the Sonata, and we may see an Electric Hyundai Sonata.

The company’s main priority is to manufacture more compact electric cars rather than midsize models. Hyundai might introduce some new features in Sonata just because the model has not completed its five-year lifecycle. The current model of Sonata was launched in 2019. To keep up with the market and demand, Hyundai will modify Sonata slightly for the 2023 models.

Sonata’s cult community still has a chance to drive Hyundai Sonata. Soon, it will be sacrificed to make room for EVs, SUVs, and Crossovers. Sadly, 2025 is going to be the last year for Hyundai Sonata. Discontinued News will miss it for sure.
